The Cheekie, a proprietary variety of Freshco, originated in New Zealand. It is through Freshco’s partnership with Sage Fruit Company that Cheekie apples are now available to U.S. consumers. New Zealand’s growing is very similar to those in Washington. With a unique combination of warm summer sunshine, crisp winter frosts and clean pure waters, the apples ripen slowly, naturally, and with the absolute minimum of human intervention.
This variety is a crisp and juicy apple with a dark red blush. Additionally, it has a wonderful, distinctive flavor. Described as being slightly tropical, with a hint of passion fruit that is accompanied by an ever-so-slight tartness, it is sure to please the taste buds.
