Grilled Cheese just got turned up a notch by adding fresh D’Anjou Pears to this classic sandwich!
Makes 4 half sandwiches
Ingredients:
- 1 D’Anjou unpeeled pear cored and sliced thin.
- 3 Tablespoons of softened butter
- 4 slices of medium to sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 slices of sourdough bread
Instructions:
In a large skillet or pancake griddle melt one tablespoon of butter over medium high heat. Add sliced pears to the melted butter and sauté slices until tender crisp (about 2 minutes). Remove pears from the pan and set aside.
Next, butter four slices of sour dough bread with 2 tablespoons of softened butter. Then, take two slices of the buttered bread, and on the side that has not been buttered layer the cooked pears and two slices of cheese per slice of bread. Top the two sandwiches with the remaining two slices of buttered bread (butter side facing up).
Over medium high heat place the buttered sandwiches on the hot griddle or skillet and cook until bread is a golden brown. Turn sandwiches over with a spatula and continue grilling the sandwiches until the cheese melts and the bread is a golden brown. Remove sandwiches from the skillet and cut in half.
Enjoy this sophisticated grilled cheese and savor the great taste that the Sage pear brings to every bite!
