Congdon Orchards is a multi-generational family business that has operated in the Yakima Valley for over 120 years. Founder, Chester Congdon began acquiring property in and around Yakima in the late 1890’s. He engineered and financed the construction of one of the earliest irrigation projects in Eastern Washington, which remains in operation today – the Yakima Valley Canal Company. Irrigation water is of course critical to farming in our area and Chester’s project opened up 3000 acres of farm land in West Yakima for himself and his neighbors.
Today, Congdon Orchards farms roughly 1200 acres of apples, pears, and cherries from diverse growing districts including several orchards across the Yakima Valley, an orchard in the Columbia Basin and a pear ranch in the Upper Hood River Valley.
